A Two-Day Sawtooth Mountains Elopement in Stanley, Idaho

Some wedding days fly by in the blink of an eye.
But what if you didn’t have to rush?

What if instead of squeezing everything into a few short hours, you gave yourselves the gift of time? Time to explore, to breathe, to soak in every moment together without feeling like you’re racing from one thing to the next.

That’s exactly what made these two days in the Sawtooth Mountains so special.

Sawtooth Mountains are one of the most breathtaking places to plan an adventure elopement in Idaho.

Mike and Cass arrived in Stanley with the mountains towering around them and nowhere they needed to be except together. There wasn’t a packed timeline or a long list of expectations. Just room to wander, take in the scenery, and begin their adventure.

We spent the evening chasing the last bit of golden light through the mountains before making our way to a natural hot spring in the valley. As the sun disappeared behind the peaks, steam drifted into the cool summer evening air, and for a little while, everything else faded away. Relaxing in a hot spring before wedding day. Those are the moments I love most. Not the perfectly posed ones, but the quiet in-between moments that become some of the strongest memories.

The next morning felt completely different in the best way.

The excitement of the day had settled in, but there was still no rush. We drove deeper into the Sawtooths to a private overlook I’d spent time scouting beforehand. Standing there, surrounded by jagged peaks stretching in every direction, it was impossible not to stop and take it all in.

After spending time overlooking the mountains, we made our way to Stanley Lake. If you’ve never been there, it’s one of those places that almost doesn’t look real. The water is impossibly clear, the mountain backdrop feels endless, and every direction you turn looks like it belongs on a postcard.

Instead of hurrying through photos, we wandered the shoreline, laughed a lot and simply enjoyed being outside. There wasn’t any pressure to stick to a strict schedule. The day unfolded naturally, giving space for moments that couldn’t have been planned.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I love adventure elopements.

Your wedding day doesn’t have to feel like an event you’re trying to keep up with. It can feel like your favorite weekend getaway, just with your wedding woven into it.

The Sawtooth Mountains have a way of making you slow down. They remind you that your wedding isn’t about checking boxes or sticking to traditions that don’t feel like you. It’s about choosing an experience you’ll remember every time you look back at your photos.

WELCOME

Your elopement isn’t just about the moment — it’s about the place that held it.

I photograph elopements with the same intention a landscape photographer brings to the mountains. Some images focus on the two of you, while others step back to capture the vast landscapes that held the moment.
